The Folk Heritage Museum ( Phelchey Toenkhyim) houses an interesting exhibition of items and artefacts utilized in rural households, this restored three storey traditional rammed mud and timber house dates from the mid-19th century. The design and form of the house is that of a typical household found in the Wang era in the 19th century. Offering an insight into traditional practices including a traditional watermill with mill stones dating back over a 150 years.
A traditional Bhutanese rural house will generally consist of two or three storey''''s and an attic, the ground floor houses the animals particularly in the depths of the winter season and to store the year’s harvest such as rice, millet or wheat. The living, sleeping and prayer room is the second storey with some houses having a third storey, the top floor is the attic used for storage and to hang freshly picked grain crops to dry, before thrashing the grain to produce flour or polished rice.
