The National Memorial Chorten, a religious site utilized for daily worship, people engage in the age-old Buddhist ritual ''Kora'' - a circular pilgrimage, chanting Om with offerings of butter lamps. A Tibetan style Chorten in design with its golden spire this impressive stupa was constructed in honor of the ''mind of Buddha'' - one of the three traditional pillars of Buddhism, world peace & prosperity and in memory of the 3rd King, H.M. Jigme Dorji Wangchuck - whom originated the construction and passed away prior to its completion. A multi storied stupa that will introduce you to Tantric Buddhism; it contains 3 dimension mandalas depicting the Buddhist faith. Constructed to protect the valley from the negative elements of modernization, it was finally completed by The Royal Queen Mother, as a memorial stupa for the Third King. Its internal artwork is a fine example of contemporary monuments including a large east facing image of Sakyamuni Buddha.
